We have for sale a stunning and unusual lot of vintage matching 115 white cotton knot buttons and 3 button sample cards from Strauss Import Corp. While they seem to me to have nautical look, these knot buttons were and are still used for chefs and butler coats. The sample cards describe the buttons and purchase terms and have the contact information for the company.
Mixed with other manufacturer cards from 1920s to 1950s so likely they are similar vintage. Card style leans toward 1940s. Perfect for a uniform, tunic, lab coat, housedress, costume, craft project, scrapbooking or jewelry making. Please see all photos as they are part of the description.
Not much history of the Strauss Import Corp can be found. One reference in Jews in the Early Growth of New York City’s Men’s Clothing Trade by Egal Feldman (found in the American Jewish Archives) reported that Levi Strauss was successful in the start of his legendary clothing business in San Francisco because he was “supplied materials from 2 of his brothers in New York in the dry goods business”. The address on the cards are in the borough of Manhattan within the renowned Garment District zone.
