Antique Apothecary Cork Press, Cork Compressor
Wonderful turn of the century apothecary piece. This is a hand operated cork press used to compress corks to fit into medicine bottles.
Cork Presses were used throughout the 1800s and early 1900s you would have found them in Pharmacy’s and Drug stores across America.
You lift the handle and place a wet cork into the press by pushing the handle down the cork would compress to the size bottle you needed it to fit.
The press is marked with the Star of David symbol, inside the press.
