Thank you for viewing our Store,
We have for sale a wonderful antique 1889 Singer Puzzle Box with Singer Attachments with a thumb indent box latch that works perfectly.
The workmanship is extraordinary for this solid oak box with dovetail joints. The velveteen lined box has interior latches to secure each attachment. This particular box is designated as Style #14 for the Singer vibrating shuttle treadle machine. It is full set and only missing a couple of the screw drivers. Box is stamped with a patent date of February 19, 1889. Please see all pictures as they are part of the description.
Originally designed for use with the old Singer vibrating shuttle machines including VS-2, VS-127 and VS-128. These accessories are still used today by quilters, sewing enthusiasts and tailors. They fit the low shank Singer 15-88, 66, 99, 101, 127, 128, 201, 221, 222, and other low shank machines.
History,
The patent was applied for in 1888 by John M Griest (he spelled his name that way before he began the Greist Manufacturing Company). The patent for a ‘folding box’ was issued in 1889 to the Singer Manufacturing Co.
