Thank you for viewing our Store,
We have for sale an Antique Gilchrist No.31, Automatic Ice Cream Disher as they were called back in the day.
Gilchrist's dishers are known for their robust craftsmanship and are often passed down generations. It is nickel plating over brass and has a turned wooden handle. This disher is in very good vintage condition with some wear consistent with age and use. The spring mechanism moves easily smooth and the band glides across the bottom of the bowl smoothly. Considered the most common and popular ice cream scoop ever made this scoop is in original, cleaned condition. Scoop holds 3 oz.
History,
Around the turn of the nineteenth century, soda fountains began to serve ice cream sundaes, which required some type of utensil to scoop the delicious dairy treat into dishes. Raymond Gilchrist started the Gilchrist Co. in 1902 as a hardware store in Newark, N.J. By the 1910s, the company was producing more ice cream scoops than any other single manufacturer in the United States. The patent for the No. 31 scoop was issued in 1915.
Perfect for collector's item, soda fountain enthusiasts and for your own old-fashioned summer ‘make your own sundae’ ice cream party!
