Antique 1923 ACME Fruit Jar with Glass Lid, Home Canning Jar

Sorry, this item has sold.

Thank you for viewing our Store,

We have for sale an antique ACME square quart size clear glass canning jar with a glass lid.
Wonderful find a 1920s ACME fruit jar, these jars were only made for a few years and are becoming hard to find. The clear glass jar has a wire bail and glass lid, the glass has a few bubbles and wave lines produced during manufacturing. A great collector piece.

History,
The jar is dated between 1922-1925 and was made by the Schram Glass Mfg Co. This jar has been incorrectly listed as having been made by the Acme Glass Co., Olean, N.Y. However, early in 1922, the Schram Glass Mfg. Co. sent a salesman, Thomas F. O’Hara, to the Acme plant to determine whether they had ever made any jars marked “ACME.” He reported that they had not, and on this basis, Schram’s patent attorney approved the use of the name for their jar. Schram was assigned Trademark No. 163,166, on January 2, 1923, for the ACME shield with five stars. The company claimed first use of the mark on January 1, 1922.

Circa, 1922-1925
Marked, Acme
Measures: 3 ½” x 3 ½”x 8” tall.
Condition: outer scuffs and scratches from use, rim has a couple chips, wire bail has rust. Please see all photographs as they are part of the description.
