We have for sale a charming vintage Singer 221-1 portable featherweight sewing machine and carrying case. Serial # EE861070. The machine badge was issued on December 10, 1948 and the machine was manufactured in Kilbowie, Scotland, United Kingdom.
It has an original 110-volt motor and beautiful chrome trim including the highly desired scrolled faceplate. The machine and attachments are in incredibly good vintage condition. We’ve had several machines in the last few years and this one purrs. The case is in good vintage condition showing wear consistent with age and use. The instruction booklet has a delightful patina and is intact with light wear consistent with age and use.
We thoroughly check all our machines before selling. We have cleaned, oiled, and greased the machine. After cleaning greasing and oiling the machine we properly test the machine to make sure it runs and operates as intended.
This is a very nice machine finished in that classic deep gorgeous shiny black featherweight paint, gold decals and chrome trim that shows minimal wear. The original foot pedal and electrical cord makes the motor hum. The carrying case is also in very nice condition with original hardware and handle. Please see all photos as they are part of the item’s description.

The I. M. Singer and Company began making sewing machines in 1851. In 1933, the company debuted the ‘featherweight’ machine at the Chicago World’s Fair. During WWII, the company’s factories were retooled to support war related machinery needs. In 1945, when they changed back to manufacturing sewing machines, the featherweight was their most popular and reliable brand. The Singer featherweight has long been a cherished machine for quilting and sewing due to its precise sewing capability and easy portability.
