Antique Breweriana, Anheuser Busch Corkscrew, 1800s Breweriana

Sorry, this item has sold.

Thank you for viewing our Store,

We have for sale an Antique Anheuser Busch Corkscrew
Wonderful 1880s wood handle corkscrew with the Anheuser Busch logo on both sides of handle. Why would Anheuser Busch advertise on a corkscrew? the bottle cap wasn’t invented until the 1892.
The corkscrew is made by the Williamson’s Co. of Newark NJ, USA and is marked on the shaft of the corkscrew, Williamson’s was one of the largest corkscrew manufacturers in the USA in the 1800s.
The wood handle of corkscrew has the Anheuser Busch logo on both sides, what makes this handle a little unusual is the it is flat on the sides, the more common ones had a round handle.

History:
The bottle cap wasn’t invented until the 1892 by the Crown Cork Co. Baltimore. Before the cap was introduced most all bottles had corks including beer bottles. The bottle cap was not widely used until into the 20th Century.

Circa; 1880-90s
Measures; 5 ½” tall, 3 ¾” wide at handle.
Marked; Anheuser Busch
Condition; Good with normal scuffs and scratches and soiled handle, screw has a slight bend. Please see all pictures.
