Thank you for viewing our Store,
We have for sale an Antique 1880 Crown Cast Iron & Brass Fluting Sad Iron
Wonderful find this 1880 Crown Pleat Roller
This hand operated machine was used to press pleats or crimp fabric such as collars, cuffs and ruffling on shirts. Crimped shirt collars and cuffs were popular during the mid to late 1800s.
To use heated cast iron rods were (not included) inserted into the brass fluting barrels. The fabric was then rolled between the barrels by turning of the wood handle. The heat was transferred to the brass crimping rollers crimping the fabric. There is a front clamp to secure the fluting machine to a work surface up to 1 ½” thick.
The condition is good and fully operational with paint lose and surface rust it would be an amazing piece of American history to restore or keep as is.
