Thank you for viewing our Store,
We have for sale an Antique CJ Johnson Goat Horn Handle with Spike Corkscrew.
This is known as an Adelaide Corkscrew primarily manufactured in England in the late 19th century. The handles were mainly made of goat horn with a nickel-plated brass (sometimes silver) collar at the cut end. Also, at the cut end is a blade or spike (wire breaker) used to break the wire or string that was often used to hold the cork in place.
This is an English Adelaide corkscrew, registered in 1886 and manufactured by John Marshall, trading as Christopher Johnson, Sheffield. The shaft and spike are both stamped with the CJ (flag) and JOHNSON below.
The goat horn handle is in very good condition, with no chips or cracks and just some light surface scuffing in places normal for the age. The nickel-plated brass collar is in nice condition. The spike has a bend and is missing the tip but very solid.
Circa; 1880s
Measures; 4 ¼” long, 6” wide at handle.
Condition; as described above.
