We have for sale an Antique 1850s English Rack & Pinion design corkscrew
Wonderful engineering on this 1850s English Rack & Pinion design corkscrew with horse hair dusting brush. The Bronze-washed plating was a very common type of plating in England during the latter part of the 1800s this corkscrew still shows a good portion of the plating left which is very unusual find normally the plating is gone.

To use this in the 1800s you would have ventured down to the dirt root cellar chosen a bottle from the rack used the dusting brush to clean the dust and dirt off the bottle then opened your wine. Very simple to use placed the corkscrew over the bottle twist the wood handle driving the worm (screw) into the cork then twist the metal handle clockwise to raise the cork from the bottle.

Measures; 7.25” tall, 4.75” wide at handle
Condition; Very good for age some finish lose and a chip in the wood handle (please zoom into all pictures)

The corkscrew is as described, except for just a small scratch on the handle. However, overall condition was as promised. Also James was very open and helpful. Glad I found this antiques shop on Etsy.com!
