Thank you for viewing our Store,
We have for sale an Antique English Codd Bottle with Codd Corkscrew.
This is a wonderful and unique find. This funny shaped bottle with a funny shaped corkscrew is known as a CODD Bottle. CODD bottle originated in England around 1870 the bottle has an odd shaped neck with a glass marble trapped inside. When filled with a carbonated liquid the pressure from the carbonated liquid forces the marble tight to the rubber seal at the opening of the bottle. You needed a special tool to release the marble from the bottle thus the funny corkscrew handle, placing the odd shaped handle atop the bottle you would press the marble into the bottle releasing its seal.
The green glass bottle is in wonderful condition with rubber seal intact and marked Victory. The opener is also in wonderful condition with a couple scuffs a dings from being 150 years old.
Circa; 1870-1890
Marked; Victory
Measures; Opener 5 ½” long, 4” wide at handle. Bottle 8 ¾” tall, 2 3/8” diameter at base.
Condition; Both items are in very nice condition. Please see all pictures.
