Vintage Swiss Pocket Style Corkscrew with Archimedean Style Worm
This is a very Rare Industrial looking corkscrew, the worm threads into a spring in the handle for storage the top of the corkscrew has a cylinder which slides into a groove in the handle the spring is pushed back with the cylinder until the shank is in the middle, the notched collar is then turned to engage it.
André Burkhalter was granted Swiss Patent No. 236,740 on October 14, 1943 for the process of manufacturing the Archimedean worm

History:
The bottle cap wasn’t invented until the 1892 by the Crown Cork Co. Baltimore, but not highly used until into the 1900s. Before the cap was introduced most all bottles had corks including Medicines, Perfumes, Beer and Alcohol. The corkscrew was invented in the late 1700s and still used today.
