1890s W. E. Lewis Airtight Inkwell

$145.00

Rare W. E. Lewis Airtight Inkwell, manufactured and patented in Corry PA. and Paulding Ohio, Jun, 30-1891 & Oct.25-1892. This marvel is made with a clear glass ink reserve and a Bakelite cap with a floating cork ball which seals the hole from under the cap when not in use. In the pictures you will notice the rough finish on the glass inkwell opening under the cap, this was very typical in 1800s glass manufacturing process. The liquid glass would have been poured into a mold, once the glass hardened the open surface would be ground to a smoother finish
The overall condition of this rare inkwell is near pristine, small glass chip under cap, the cap unscrews easily. Untested.

Circa, mid to late 1890s.
