Antique 1800s, Arcade Crystal No 1 Coffee Grinder, Coffee Mill
RARE #1 Arcade Coffee Grinder made by the Arcade Manufacturing Co. of Freeport Illinois.
Crystal No. 1 was the first glass hopper mill produced by Arcade, manufactured between 1885-1890s. Made of cast iron with glass hopper. The Arcade Crystal No.1 was only marked at the base (Crystal No.1) the hopper was not marked. The catch cup (not included) was held between the two round rubber bumpers at the base of the grinder. To adjust the grind from fine to coarse there is an adjustment screw on the back of the grinder.

Everything appears to be all original and in good condition, we are selling as found. The grinder has been cleaned inside and out and works wonderfully.
Glass hopper has wonderful bubbles and lines (common in this era) in the glass, also has original rubber gasket which is the seal between the glass and cast-iron frame.

*Lines and bubbles throughout the jar. The lines are formed during manufacturing when the molten glass is injected into a mold that is to cold, the molten glass cools to quickly and hardens forming the lines in the glass.

Arcade History,
Founded in 1885, Arcade Manufacturing Co. made cast iron Toys and Small Machinery for home use, especially coffee grinders. They made coffee grinders until the 1930s. In 1946, Arcade was purchased by Rockwell Manufacturing Co.

Measures, 12” tall, 5¾” wide, 9” depth.
Condition, Selling as found, Paint chips and lose throughout. Hopper has no cracks, has larger chip at base of hopper not visible unless grinder is disassembled, lid has surface rust, missing catch cup.
