19th Century Powder Flask by American Flask & Cap Company, Civil War Era
Exquisite find, this Civil War Era black powder flask made by American Flask & Cap Company of Waterbury, Connecticut.
Made of Copper and Brass, the flask has screw-off brass Graduated Charger with four drams settings 3, 3¼, 3½, 4 and marked (AMFLASK & CAP Co.). The copper case has a woven net design.
Overall condition is very good, case has one ding on neck (shown in pictures), the charger thumb spring is strong and works easily, the graduated setting for the drams is stuck, may just need some oil, flask has been sitting for a long time.
Flask is as found in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
History,
The American Flask and Cap Company was a gunpowder flask manufacturer that operated from 1857 to 1865.
Drams calibration,
4 drams - 10 gauge
3-1/4 drams - 12 gauge
3 to 3-1/2 drams - .69 caliber
Circa, 1850s-60s
Marked, AMFLASK & CAP Co.
Measures, 8” long, 3½” width on case.
Condition, very nice condition.
