Rare Antique Railroad Crossing Lantern, New York Central Lines
Wonderful find, this kerosene Railroad Lantern made by the Handlan Manufacturing Company of St. Louis, Missouri. and made for the New York Central Lines Railroad.
This is known as a two-directional Crossing Lantern used to warn pedestrians and automobiles of oncoming trains, these would have been handheld by crossing guards and station agents.
The lantern is all original including the fuel tank and burner. The red glass lenes are made by the Corning Glass Company and marked 4-1/8 F.R. the lenes are flat not rounded. At the side of the lantern is a small glass viewing port to view flame.

Circa, pre-1930
Measures, 12” tall with handle down, 8¾” lenes visor to visor, 5½” diameter at base.
Condition, original paint has scuffs and chips, lenes have scuffs and missing burner glass chimney. Lantern has been cleaned.
