Antique 1901 Deere & Mansur No. 999 Corn Planter Lid
Wonderful find, a Deere & Mansur No. 999 Corn Planter hopper lid. The No. 999 Corn Planter was an innovation in modern farming in 1877. The hoppers that held the corn seed had this cast iron Lid attached at the top.
The Lid has the beautiful, raised lettering and deer profile, it is a 2-part lid and frame held together with a spring-loaded pin. The back of the lid has three patent dates Nov 28, 1893, and July 23, 1895, and Sept 10, 1901, along with part numbers Y2002 and Y2003.
This will make a wonderful gift or addition to your collection.

History,
The Deere & Mansur No. 999 Corn Planter was a joint venture between Charles Deere (the second son of John Deere) and Alvah Mansur in 1877, The soon caught the attention of farmers, and by 1899, Deere was the largest producer of planters in the world.
By 1913, the Mansur name was dropped from the planter and only read John Deere.

Measures, 8¼” diameter, 1½” thick.
Condition, good vintage condition, no cracks, or chips, has surface rust.
