Antique Goldminers Portable Balance Scale, Pennyweight and Ounces.
Amazing find, this turn of the Century 1900, Prospector / Goldminers Scale.
These were used in the late 1800s to the early 1900s during the goldrush days. This portable balance scale would have been used to weigh your gold dust or nuggets. Using Pennyweight or Ounce counterweights.
The scale is made of brass and stores in the pullout drawer for safe keeping, set includes 1-PW, 2-PW, 3-PW & ½-OZ, 1-OZ, 2-OZ counterweights. The center pillar screws into the plate at the top of the box, it has a mechanism the raises and lowers the weight pans, which stops them from swinging.
The set of Brass Standard gauges was in the case when found, we are including them.
*P.W., Pennyweight is a standard unit of measurement for measuring precious metals. There are 20 pennyweights in a troy ounce.
Circa, 1900
Measures, Box= 10½” wide, 6” depth, 2½” height.
Condition, nice for age, small chip on right front drawer face, missing 2-counterweights. Box shows wear from use.
