Antique 1880 Fluting Iron Shepard Hardware,
Wonderful cast iron Fluting Iron made by Shepard Hardware of Buffalo NY. Marked on the bottom of the base (Pat’D Nov 12, Dec 17, 1879, and Jan 13,1880).
This set includes heating base with lid, removable heating plate and plate roller. The base is case iron with a nickel-plated hinged lid, the removable heating plate is cast iron with directions molded into the cast iron. The roller is made of cast iron with a ventilated hollow handle, the fluting roller is nickel-plated.
This style of fluting iron was designed to be heated on a wood or gas burning stove. The lid and heating plate have square holes, these are to be used with your stove plate lifting tool to open the hot lid and pick up and hot heating plate. The heating plate would be heated on the stove and then placed inside the Fluting Iron base. Fluting Iron plate work surface area measures 6 \¾” long, 3¼” wide.

Measures, 8” long, 3 ½” wide at base feet, Roller 3¼” wide with a 2¼” diameter.
Condition, plating loss and discoloring on nickel plating.
