Antique Griswold Cast Iron New American #8 Waffle Iron with Low Rise Base.
Cast iron stove top Waffle Iron made by the Griswold Manufacturing Company of Erie PA, USA. The irons are marked 976C & 977D.
The base is considered a low base which was designed to be used on an antique wood or gas cooking stove with an open cooking hole (meaning circular cooking plate removed). With the base over the open cooking hole the waffle iron can rotate 360 deg. without lifting the iron.
Griswold patented the New American No. 8 Waffle Iron in 1901.

Circa, 1901-1920
Marked, Griswold #8, PAT’D May 21, 1901.
Measures, Iron 15 ½” at handle, 7 ¾” diameter. Base 1 ½” tall, 10” diameter at bottom. Weighs 9 pounds.
Condition, good no cracks or chips, should be seasoned before using, Wood handles were replaced at some point.
