Antique 1875, Lorillard’s Tin Tag Tobacco, Tobacco Plug Cutter
Wonderful find this antique tobacco plug cutter made by The Enterprise Manufacturing Company of Philadelphia, PA and made for the P. Lorillard Company. The patent dates on the bottom of this cutter are July 25, 1871 & April 13, 1875.
This is a true antique, being nearly 150 years old. The cutter is made of cast iron with a steel cutting blade (very sharp), marked on both sides and top in raised lettering (Lorillard’s Tin Tag Tobacco). Originally finished in a black paint with pin stripping of red and gold, some of the original paint and pin stripping remain.
You would have found these in mercantile and tobacco stores across America in the late 1800 bolted down to the countertop for cutting plug tobacco.
This is an amazing piece and will display wonderfully in your collection.
