Antique Solar Carbide Bicycle lamp
Wonderful turn of the 19th Century Bicycle lamp made by The Badger Brass Manufacturing Company of Kenosha Wisconsin. The lamp is made of nickel-plated brass with a clear glass front lens and red and blue glass jewel side lights. The bottom of the lamp has patent dates, the latest being June 15th, 1899.
The lamp appears to be complete with burner and reflector, plus the carbine container has the internal parts.
Please remember this is a bicycle lamp. It was on the front of someone’s bicycle at the beginning of the 1900s, it does have a couple dings and scuffs. Notables are the water tank air valve is dented and the base of the carbide container has a dent on the outer rim, also there appears to have been a weld done on the neck under the green glass jewel. We have lightly cleaned the lantern it could still use some deep cleaning.
We have included in our pictures a page from an early 1900s magazine showing this lamp.
As with all our antiques we recommend they be treated as antiques and not used as an everyday item, there are precious few unique antiques left in the world.
Circa, 1910s
Measures, 7” tall, 5” depth, front lens diameter is 3 3/8”.
Condition, As noted above.
Please see all pictures as they are part of the description.

A stunning piece for any carbide lamp collection. The technology within is intact as well that serves as a teaching tool on how this things worked. Thanks!
