We have for sale a 1934 Cool Cap / Turtle Shell Miners Cap with Justrite Carbide Lantern.
Wonderful and Exciting find, this extraordinarily rare condition Miners Cap Known in the mines as a Turtle Shell Helmet made by the Portable Products Corp of Pittsburgh PA. and named the Flexo Band Cool Cap. The Cap is made of a hard shell (maybe Bakelite) top cover and a vinyl and wool rim. The Lantern is a Justrite brass carbide burning lantern which clips onto the front of the cap. The overall condition, the cap is used but shows little wear, a true museum piece.
The Cap was found in Eastern Tennessee.

History,
The Flexo Band Cool Cap was patented by Albert A. Strauss in the early 1930s and only distributed by a few different companies during the 20th century. The Flexo Band Cool Cap is on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.

Condition, minor scuffs, and scratches on cap, lantern has pitting on chrome reflector.
