Thank you for viewing our Store,
We have for sale an Antique 1800s Tea Kettle
Wonderful piece of American history this beautiful copper tea kettle from the mid-1800s. You just know an antique kettle the first time you pick it up, the weight and the balance in the handle is stunning, a true coppersmith’s piece of artwork.
This Kettle is made of hand forged copper with interlaced / Cramp seams on the spout, back and base of kettle. The lid has a crimp seam joining the lid with the inner ring / flange.
We mention the types of seams that were used on this kettle to help give a more accurate manufacturers date. Cramp Seams which look very similar to Dovetail joints in woodworking were used until around 1850, when the much easier Crimp Seam was introduced, both these types of seams were still hand forged until modern day machinery was developed. You will see brass inside the joints, brass was used to weld the pieces together, on the inside of the lid you will see gray flux this was used to seal and weld the parts of the lid together, you will also see depressions in the face of the copper this accrued when the copper was hand rolled out into sheet.
The Kettle is designed with decorative brass handle stands and the handles top copper round section which is hollow to reduce the heat buildup in the handle, the lid is also made of copper with a brass finial knob.
The overall condition is wonderful for being over 150 years old. The kettle does have a couple dents and dings through-out but still a magnificent piece.
