Thank you for viewing our Store,
We have for sale an Antique Four Chamber Liqueur Decanter.
Beautiful turn of the century 1900s French liqueur decanter made of heavy glass and embellished with silver overlay. The decanter is unmarked by the manufacturer name so pinpointing the actual date is difficult, although by looking at tell-tale signs we can determine an approximate origin and date.
The glass consists of an eight-piece construction. The neck and top cap are connected with a glass bead wrapped around the diameter to fuse the pieces together. All the glass has air bubbles and tiny bits of sand which was very common in this era. The top four finials are silver-plated pewter with cork attached to the base, the silver overlay is a mixture of pewter and brass with silver-plate. The outer glass is engraved with four types of liqueurs: Brandy, Whiskey, Gin and Rhum, (note that rum is spelt Rhum)
Rhum, is a much more specific term for Rum. An abbreviation from the term rhum agricole, this type of rum can only come from Martinique. And while most rums are distilled from fermented molasses, rhum is made from fresh pressed sugar cane juice. On the island, sugar cane is grown specifically for the production of rhum agricole, and the fields are managed and controlled like vineyards.
Circa, 1880-1920s
Measurements, 12” tall, 5 ½” diameter at center, weighs 4 pounds.
Condition, light discoloration / fogging spots inside bottles (not noticeable with liquid inside, corks are wore as shown. Silver-plating has spots of flaking on finials.
