Antique 1906 John Hasselbring's Patented Bottle Opener with Hidden Corkscrew made of Stag Horn & Sterling Silver.
This is a beautiful and rare Victorian Era Stag Horn opener featuring a cap lifter which includes a Baltimore loop seal remover on the end, unscrew the opener to reveal a hidden corkscrew inside the stag horn handle, the silver collar on the stag handle is marked STERLING 120. The cap lifter is silver- plated steel with a very sharp bladed worm (screw) which threads into a brass insert at the end of the stag horn wrapped with a Sterling silver cap.
History,
The bottle cap lifter design is by John Hasselbring's August 14, 1906 U. S. Design Patent No. D-38,166. The design includes a Baltimore loop seal remover.
The point or tip you see on cap lifter was designed to aid in the removal of the Baltimore loop seal. The Baltimore loop seal was invented in the 1880s by William Painter and used into the early 1900s it was a small rubber seal used as a stopper on glass bottles which had a wire bail / loop extending out of it which required a tool to ease in the removal of the stopper.

Condition; good with plating lose on opener area and typical for these the horn has a split were the sterling collar was nailed in place.
