Wonderful Red Globe Dressel Railroad Lantern made for the N.Y.C.S. New York Central System Railroad.
The lantern's lid is marked Dressel Arlington N.J., N.Y.C.S.

History,
The Dressel Railway Lamp & Signal Company was incorporated in 1922 with a new plant at Arlington NJ. It was formerly known as Dressel Railway Lamp Works, New York City and was originally established in 1882. Dressel Patent No. 2157081 was a patent that was applied for in 1936 and granted in 1939 that patented the unique system Dressel used to hold the sprung globe retainer in position. As soon as this patent was granted in 1939, Dressel stamped the patent onto the bottom of its lanterns. However at some point in the future it stopped stamping the patent. Dressel lanterns with the patent stamp were made after May, 1939. Some sources indicate that Dressel may have stopped stamping the patent date after 1940.

Measure, 9” tall without handle, 6” diameter at wire base.
Condition, vintage the lantern does not have the burner, couple tiny chips on glass edges.
