We have for sale an Antique Mason’s 1858 Fruit Canning Jar with Maltese Cross Symbol.
Wonderful find this 1858 aqua-blue pint size fruit jar with zinc lid. The Mason’s Fruit Jar was made by several different companies across America in the mid and late 1800s. This jar is known as the Maltese Cross symbol jar made by, Hero Glass Works / Hero Fruit Jar Company, of Philadelphia, PA. Jars with the Maltese Cross symbol below the Mason’s name were the second gen of this type, earlier jars the cross was above the Mason’s name.
The base of this jar is marked with “PAT NOV 26 67” (Patented November 26, 1867). The rim of the jar has a ground edge which was a normal manufacturing process, which also helps date the jar to between the 1870s to 1890s.
The jar is light blue in color and has bubbles and waves in the glass very typical for the 1880s,

Measures, 5 ¾” tall, 3 ¼” diameter at base.
Marked, Mason’s Patent Nov 30th, 1858
Condition, good with no cracks or has a couple flea bite chips on rim, glass is foggy in spots.
