We have for sale an Antique Atlas Powder Company, Wood Shipping Crate
Rustic old Atlas Explosives Crate, made by the Atlas Powder Company of Wilmington Delaware, USA. This crate has lovely dovetail joint corners and wooden handles. The crate has a destressed look with dark patina and stains on the wood, the bottom is very worn.
History,
In the early 1900s Du Pont was the giant in explosives and gun powder monopolizing the industry. In 1911 Du Pont Company was court ordered to breakup its monopoly of explosives and gunpowder manufacturing business. The breakup resulted in the creation of two new companies in 1912, Atlas Powder Company took explosives manufacturing portion and Hercules Powder Company took the gunpowder portion of the business.
