We have for sale an Antique 1897 Smith & Egge Automatic Sewing Machine
This is one of the most sought after American made mini hand sewing machines. This machine was made by the Smith & Egge manufacturing Company of Bridgeport Connecticut.
In 1896 William Smith and Frederick Egge started making their Automatic hand crank sewing machine, and manufacture over 50,000 of these machines, to date there are only around 1,000 still known to exist.
This machine is a later version and most likely patented in 1897, it comes in its original wooden box and has its original hold down clamp. The overall condition of the machine is very good with paint chips and wear from use. The wooden box has a slide out lid and dovetail corner construction, the box is worn and chipped as shown in pictures.
Thank you to Alex Askaroff of sewalot.com for his wonderful knowledge of these machines. Please see the following attachment for the complete story of the Smith & Egge Automatic Sewing Machine.
